Zichronos is a collection of firsthand memories of the Rebbe and life in 770, recorded by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Schapiro, longtime Rav and Rosh Yeshivah in Miami Beach.
Rabbi Schapiro was privileged to spend many formative years in 770, first as a bochur, later as a chozer, and then as a member of the Rebbe’s Kolel. Over the years, he witnessed countless farbrengens, conversations, encounters, and special moments involving the Rebbe and many of the prominent Chassidim of that generation.
In recent years, Rabbi Schapiro began recording these memories, with a particular emphasis on events he personally witnessed and experiences he remembered firsthand. These recordings have now been transcribed and gathered into one volume.
The stories range from major historic occasions to small, personal details of daily life in 770—moments that capture not only what happened, but something of the atmosphere in which it happened.
The project took on special meaning when Rabbi Schapiro’s grandson, Mendel Levertov, helped transcribe and prepare the recordings for publication in connection with his Bar Mitzvah.
More than a collection of memories, Zichronos offers readers an opportunity to step into an earlier era, experience moments by the Rebbe through the eyes of someone who was there, and strengthen their own connection to the Rebbe and his teachings.
