A Chassidishe farbrengen is the foundation upon which Chassidim build their lives, and the cornerstones of a farbrengen are the stories in which the elder Chassidim fondly recall great Chassidim of bygone generations. Propelled by such stories, a Chossid can proceed confidently along his path through life. As the noted Chossid Reb Hillel Particher said, "Every Chossid needs a Chossid [to be his mentor]."
Early Chassid Personalities is a series presenting the life-stories of the Chassidim of stature, Chassidim whose example show us how we should live our lives. All their days and hours, not just in isolated moments of inspiration, were lovingly devoted to the Rebbeim and the ways of Chassidus.
This book, the second in the series, is filled with stories about HaRav Pinchas Reizes. He personified what it means to be a Chossid. His devotion to Hashem was evident in the way he fulfilled every mitzvah, whether it was how he gave Tzedokah with an open hand and with graciousness or how he Davened.
He is known for preserving hundreds of the Alter Rebbe's teachings and sayings. In addition, he is the source of numerous stories and accounts related to the growth of Chassidism during those formative years.
Perhaps this is why the Mitteler Rebbe bestowed upon him the title fo "The General of Chassidim."
